The mural welcomes visitors to The Needles Regional Museum located on Front Street across from Santa Fe Park, El Garsis Hotel and Harvey House. Peanuts creator Charles Shultz lived here in the 1920’s and yes, had a dog named spike! Now Spike first appeared in the strip in 1975 and has appeared in Peanuts more frequently than any other of Snoopy's siblings. Whiskers that look like a mustache and always sporting a hat… and in 1996, he was given Mickey Mouse's shoes. Route 66 – Bagdad Cemetery

Route 66 – Bagdad Cemetery

Mother Road Minute
Bagdad Cemetery The city of Bagdad was bypassed in 1972 when Interstate 40 opened 20 miles to the north and the two-lane stretch of Route 66 through here became a deserted, seldom-used road between Amboy and Ludlow. Bagdad’s last buildings were eventually bulldozed into oblivion in 1991 and the only remains is this cemetery. The BLM keeps a close eye on this location. Despite what you may have heard… There is no buried treasure, guns or valuable objects in the graves, and never was. The ghost town of Bagdad was founded in 1883 on Route 66, and was the main wagon trail into California used as it crossed the Mojave along the Mojave Trail. Bagdad Cemetery lies just north of the tracks near the former site of the railroad depot.…
