Route 66 – Amboy Crater

Mother Road Minute
Amboy Crater Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark Amboy, California <script> I’m at the Amboy Crater in the California’s Mohave Desert, halfway between Barstow and Needles on Route 66. It was formed some 79,000 years ago. It stands 250 feet high, 1,500 feet wide and was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1973. This is a very symmetrical volcanic cinder cone and when it was formed a breach on the west side allowed lava to cover some 24 square miles with lava lakes, collapsed lava tubes and spatter cones. Entrance is free, open year round, RV and Trailer parking and the site offers picnic tables, restroom facilities, a hiking trail to the rim and is ADA Friendly with a ramada overlook. This is a must See!  [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO16GlxbdbI[/embedyt]       …

Route 66 – Bagdad Cafe

Route 66 – Bagdad Cafe

Mother Road Minute
Bagdad Cafe This is the Bagdad Cafe, made famous by The International-award winning movie by the same name in 1987. The film featured CCH Pounder and Jack Palance. For history buffs, Bagdad is a former town on Route 66 east of ludlow that was bypassed by Interstate 40 and it originally did have a Bagdad Cafe, but the movie was filmed here at the once named Sidewinder Cafe in Newberry Springs some 50 miles west. The Sidewinder Cafe was built in 75 and was officially renamed the Bagdad Cafe in 1995 when it was purchased by its current owners. Easy to find from the east or west, south side of I-40 between Fort Cady Road and Newberry Road on Route 66. Route 66 – Lighting the Roy’s Motel Sign

Route 66 – Lighting the Roy’s Motel Sign

Mother Road Minute
This was an exciting day for me… You’ve heard the term "a kid in a candy store"? I was invited by the night manager Nicole to turn on the Roy’s Motel Sign at dusk. To some this is not a big deal... To me, I’m Charlie Bucket standing in Bill’s Candy Store and getting the Golden Ticket. This sign -- restored in 2019 -- is the tallest thing for miles, and claims to be the most photographed sign on Route 66. Add in the Googie architecture and the surrounding ghost town buildings, it creates a very artsy, post-apocalyptic vibe. Route 66 – Ludlow Cafe

Route 66 – Ludlow Cafe

Mother Road Minute
The Ludlow Cafe A must stop when traveling Route 66 in California’s Mohave Desert is the ghost town of Ludlow. Founded in 1882 as a water stop for steam locomotives it then served the mining industry until the 1940’s and then, serving travelers on the National Trails Highway. When Interstate 40 was built, it bypassed the town and rendered it obsolete. At the Ludlow exit off I-40 you’ll find the Ludlow Cafe. This is just one of those experiences you have to do once. True Route 66 diner food… Open for breakfast, lunch and Dinner. And again ya gotta try it. Before heading out of Ludlow, be sure to travel some of the backroads behind the cafe. Sadly, This is a town that is vanishing so be sure to give…

Kingman Arizona - Show 2203 Arizona Podcast   [su_divider top="no"][podcast_subscribe id="459"][su_spacer size="30"]   Kingman AZ The City of Kingman is a city along Route 66, in northwestern Arizona. Elevation of 3,333 and a populations of 30,000. The historic Mother road and the role of Kingman is most certainly part of American history and is celebrated at the Route 66 Museum, set inside the Powerhouse Visitors Center. Murals, dioramas and a library at the Mohave Museum of History and Arts traces local history. Locomotive Park, featuring old Locomotive 3759 a 1928 steam engine, and the Kingman Railroad Museum documents the city's past as a 20th-century railway hub.  I had an awesome discussion with Josh Noble Tourism Services Manager for the City of Kingman. He is a walking and talking knowledge base…
